Joseph P. Contino, MD, FACS

EDUCATION:
Dr. Contino completed his undergraduate studies in Santa Clara, Calif. at Santa Clara University earning a bachelor’s degree in combined science. He went on to attend Loyola Stritch School of Medicine in Chicago where he completed his medical degree. Dr. Contino attended the UC Davis Medical School where he completed his six year residency with one year in cardiac research.

EXPERIENCE:
Dr. Contino joined the Northwest Permanente Physicians in Salem, Ore. in 1994 and worked at Salem Hospital before joining Salem Clinic Physicians and Surgeons, P.C. in 1997.  During this time, he participated in the Salem Hospital Breast Center Committee, Salem Hospital Planning Center for Outpatient Medicine and was appointed Section Chief of Salem Hospital General Surgery. In July 2010, he moved to Las Vegas with a focus in diseases of the breast and has privileges at Centennial, Valley and Summerlin hospitals.

Ultrasound Certification with the American Society of Breast Surgeons

AREAS OF SPECIAL INTEREST:
After years of treating breast, colon and thyroid cancers, Dr. Contino has a special focus on breast related diseases using less invasive technologies such as breast ultrasound, stereotactic imaging, cryotherapy, and other new modalities.

PERSONAL:
Dr. Contino is married with four children. His interests include hiking, cooking, fishing and cycling. He is an advocate of the American Society of Breast Surgeons with the goal of improving physician education and communication.

VISION STATEMENT:
I am dedicated to treating breast cancer on an individualized basis. This requires staying up on the latest forms of breast cancer treatment, and closely collaborating with other specialists who are like minded.  My goal is to spend time with my patients to inform them, and console if needed as I would hope others would treat members of my family. Ultimately I want to provide surgical cure, acceptable cosmetic outcomes, and good functional results.
