Beyond research and treating patients is a desire to help patients that are facing a financial hardship. To fill a local need that was underserved, CCCN founded the ORION Cancer Foundation in 2010.
The nonprofit provides financial assistance to Southern Nevada cancer patients, regardless of where they are receiving treatment. Long hospital stays and missed work can cause financial distress, so ORION helps pay for patients’ living expenses, including such items as mortgage/rent, utilities, transportation and groceries. Patients have a difficult time focusing on treatment and getting well when they are worried about paying their bills.
The nonprofit has evolved and is now one of the many programs offered by the Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation.
