American
Association of Cancer Research (AACR)
AACR, a scientific society of over 19,000 laboratory and clinical
cancer researchers, was founded in 1907 to facilitate communication
and dissemination of knowledge among scientists and others dedicated
to the cancer problem; to foster research in cancer and related
biomedical sciences; to encourage presentation and discussion of
new and important observations in the field; to foster public education,
science education, and training; and to advance the understanding
of cancer etiology, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment throughout
the world.
American
Cancer Society (ACS)
The American Cancer Society website is a rich network of integrated
websites with information about cancer; cancer treatment; support
groups and services; and special health needs of patients and survivors.
Topics are arranged to appeal to such web readers as patients, family,
and friends; survivors; health-information seekers; ACS supporters;
and professionals, including the media.
American
Institute for Cancer Research (AICR)
Founded in 1982, AICR has grown into the nation's leading charity
in the field of diet, nutrition and cancer. AICR supports research
into the role of diet and nutrition in the prevention and treatment
of cancer. It also offers a wide range of cancer prevention education
programs and publications for health professionals and the public.
American
Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (ASBMT)
ASBMT is a national professional association that promotes advancement
of the field of blood and bone marrow transplantation. ASBMT members
are both in clinical practice and in research.
American
Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ASTRO)
ASTRO will continue to be the premier professional association in
radiation oncology, dedicated to improving patient care through
education, the advancement of science and representing the specialty
in the health policy arena.

Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO)
This site is an interactive resource for ASCO members and other
oncology professionals involved in the multidisciplinary care of
patients with cancer.
American
Society of Hematology (ASH)
ASH is the world's largest professional society concerned with the
causes and treatment of blood disorders. Its mission is to further
the understanding, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disorders
affecting the blood, bone marrow, and the immunologic, hemostatic,
and vascular systems, by promoting research, clinical care, education,
training, and advocacy in hematology.
Association
of Community Cancer Centers (ACCC)
The ACCC is focused on the education and advocacy organization for
oncology professionals.
Eastern
Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG)
ECOG was established in 1955 as one of the first cooperative groups
launched to perform multi-center cancer clinical trials. Funded
primarily by the National Cancer Institute, ECOG has evolved from
a five member consortium of institutions on the East Coast to one
of the largest clinical cancer research organizations in the U.S.
with almost 6000 physicians, nurses, pharmacists, statisticians,
and clinical research associates from the U.S., Canada, and South
Africa. Institutional members include universities, medical centers,
Community Clinical Oncology Programs, and Cooperative Group Outreach
Programs.
International
Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC)
As part of the World Health Organization, the IARC's mission is
to coordinate and conduct research on the causes of human cancer,
the mechanisms of carcinogenesis, and to develop scientific strategies
for cancer control. The Agency is involved in both epidemiological
and laboratory research and disseminates scientific information
through publications, meetings, courses, and fellowships.
MEDLINEplus
MEDLINEplus is a goldmine of good health information from the world's
largest medical library, the National Library of Medicine. Health
professionals and consumers alike can depend on it for information
that is authoritative and up to date.
MEDLINEplus has extensive information from
the National Institutes of Health and other trusted sources on over
600 diseases and conditions. There are also lists of hospitals and
physicians, a medical encyclopedia and a medical dictionary, health
information in Spanish, extensive information on prescription and
nonprescription drugs, health information from the media, and links
to thousands of clinical trials.
National
Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN)
The National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN), established in
1995, is a not-for-profit, tax-exempt corporation of cancer centers
formed to ensure its membership have a leading role in the evolving
managed care environment. The NCCN website offers users extensive
cancer resources such as programs, practice guidelines, guidelines
for patients, network hospitals, clinical trials, outcomes, physician
directory, a list of links to other valuable cancer resources, and
more.
National
Cancer Institute (NCI)
The NCI coordinates the National Cancer Program, which conducts
and supports research, training, health information dissemination,
and other programs with respect to the cause, diagnosis, prevention,
and treatment of cancer, rehabilitation from cancer, and the continuing
care of cancer patients and the families of cancer patients.
PubMed
PubMed, available via the National
Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) Entrez retrieval
system, was developed by the NCBI at the
National
Library of Medicine (NLM), located at the
National Institutes of Health (NIH). Entrez is the text-based
search and retrieval system used at NCBI for all major databases
including PubMed, Nucleotide, and Protein Sequences, Protein Structures,
Complete Genomes, Taxonomy, OMIM, and many others.
PubMed was designed to provide access to citations
from biomedical literature. LinkOut
provides access to full-text articles at journal Web sites and other
related trap resources. PubMed also provides access and links to
the other Entrez molecular biology databases.
Society
of Gynecologic Oncologists (SGO)
The SGO is a non-profit, international organization made up of obstetricians
and gynecologists specializing in gynecologic oncology.
